This is the last sociology blog of the year, and I feel what I have learned in this class will give me more insght in the long run.My family values are still the same but I feel i have expanded my normes and what truly goes into family values.How of all people of gender race,and social class are all just people like eveyone else and because I know that it my expands my desire of already treating people equaly and how I would want to be treated.I have learned dangers of media advertising  and the how it helps form American culture.I also learned how my behavior can effect the norms around me and lead to changes in culture. This class has changed and expresed new ideals of culture.

Week 17

This week in sociology we are watching the movie "Crash" to continue are unit about race.The Movie "Crash" decribes different storys and how there race or ethnic group is treated in different types of situations.Like in one situation one of the guys was working at his job at a TV station and this other guy and pulls him aside because he thought they should shoot another cut of the scene because one of the actors was not talking black enough and the main guy he pulled to talk about this is black too. People's view's of stereotypes can change the way people of race differently.People just asume that that the stereotypes are how people of different  race or ethnic group should act.

I believe it is not true.Look at me.I am part german.I am not a strootal eating,beer drinking leterhosen wearing type of person.Those are just stereotypes created by the media.they are just Words and images,not the truth.

week 15

This week in sociology we are talking about social aspect of race.In class today we did a experiment with different balls.There were basketballs, baseballs,soccer balls ,footballs, and other types of balls as well.Are task was to sort them by a category of are choosing.But the thing is that there is no true way to sort the balls just like there is no way to sort people by race.You have all different races and there is no one category to sort by.Look at skin color, and how people in different races have darker skin cold and not just the ones people depict as dark colored skin.You just can't sort people by race.

For example look at me.I am white and jewish with some German decent and people do't always see me as that. people have told me I look Russian but I feel I do not look that way at all and my decent from my family is German and Polish which was part of Russia at one point and close to it but i am not Russian.

week 14

This week in sociology we continued talking about social class.This week we are watching a movie called "People Like Us".It goes though the details of different social static.Like how it showed a party in the Hamptions and shows charteristics of what people think is class.The video also shows the life of people in poverty and how many struggles they must live with.So this movie decribes different factors that effect are social norms and how these details very differ from our norms as well.Poeple are born into these classes and don't undergo the problems that others of lower classes that shape those people.So for people on opposite sides of social class have different set of norms then what we think.

I was born into middle class so my norms were set differently when  I was little.I was not a child with a silver or plastic spoon in my mouth.The spoon I had was more stainless steel then other materiales.My family is very good at providing but it is not like I am having caviar every night or opossum.So norms are set a lot by the way you live.

week 13

This week in sociology we talked about social class and how that is made in society. There are a lot of thing that we learned effect your social class. Your income,if new or old money,job,family status,and even your education effects your social class.My teacher showed us a picture of a ladder with the different social classes labled on it and next to it where charetoristics on the side that explain  the different levals of social class and what type of people make up that leaval.It was just like the ladder because the higher you climb the higher in socail class you are in the chart.



You have similar idoleolgy in schools. In my experence you see different cliches that seem like different statues in school.And just like the latter the more you climb the higher amount of puopularitery you would have.So you cliches that define different people and rate them on charitoristics just like with social class.

week 12

This week in sociology we learned about Deviance and how they differ form what we know in are usual social norms.We looked at an article a group of students in the 70's called the Saints.They where a group of eight male white middle class students. Many people had said in the article  referring to the boys saying how great students they where and popular in the community.But They also violated some aspects of their school's society.Like how they would ditch classes and and go to the pool hall but the teachers did not notice it.But there was another group in the school the Roughnecks that were not the greatest students to be at the school but they did the same types of things the saints did but they usually got caught.So they both violated the norm but it mainly only effected one group .

Some times I perform  a deviance but mostly in a positive way.eating during class.Some people don't like that because the people seem distracted.But I share so people don't have to miss out .I only east in class if we are watching a movie so I don't get side track during note taking.So if done in a non disrupted and positive manner, you can do deviance that are not violent or rude.

Service blog

This week I perfumed 10 hours of community service for the Special Olympics bocce ball tournament.I was there from 7:30 in the mourning to 5:30 in the afternoon.I also went to a training oration given at my school.The supervisor that was with us was my Sociology teacher Mr.Salituro.I was assigned to court Q for the tournament.The first thing that the court's groups had to do was set up the court.It was changing at first but once everything was put out the pieces were all coming together. .I thought it was an extremely great experience to interact and have fun with the athletes.During the matches I was the score keeper and it was my job to keep track of the score and to announce the winner of the match.I did feel kind of sad because i had to give the team the news that they lost even though how hard they tried.The game was hard to understand at first but was the matches got going I began to really understand the rules clearly.The competitors were very great people.They really got into the game and they were always so nice to me at my court.I would cheer and complement every athlete we had on our court.The most exciting part of the day were the gold medal matches.To be apart of a such important matches was very exciting.Even one of the matches my court had went into overtime which was extremely exiting. To see the cheering and smiling faces of the athletes makes it worth it.They showed me that you can do anything you put your mind too as long as you believe you can and work hard.So one the bus going back I had realize the power volunteering and what a couple hours of someones day can make a great experience for other peoples lives.

week 11

This week in sociology we talked about the depictions are society has about girls and boys.This Week we looked the different toys that where advertised to the different sexes.Toy depictions of what both sexes look like ,like barbe, are created with an image that influences children to strive towards that image.The clothing, body figure and even thought process are influenced by the toys to make children want to make these changes. Look at Barbe,it is impossible to have that body figure even with a large amount of surgery which would be very risky.So the images toys produce influence kids to have there image rapped around the toys image.


When my sister was young her image stared to reflect on the toys she played with.When she was younger she loved polly pocket.She had bought clothing very similar to the ones the doll had.Beach hats, bags,they were almost twins.As she is getting older  the pocket fad disapered. But the influence lives on in todays media but not as bad as it was before.

Week 10

This week in sociology we learned about the social influence that the media has on human development.Tv advertisement now has some major powers influencing child  social development.This week we watched a video about the influence of a advertisement on child development. Research had shown that the media advertisement has on even very young children.They are making now video games for toddlers now. These companies want to influence thee young children of today so they will become the super consumers of tomorrow and pretty much surround their culture with what the media advertises.so now major cope rations have the power to pretty much control the kids society.

When I was young I was very influenced by media.When I was little I was obsessed with power rangers.That was what my life was center around. I had every toy watched every episode and wore a porringers costume for 3 different Hollween's.It was just centered around it. I just want to by everything that had to do with them.But as I got older I was able to grow over it.

Week 9

This week in sociology we learned about human nature and how some abilities that people have to learn from social interaction that you just do not know when you are young.In class we read an article about a girl name Genie.In 1970 she was found a California home, locked in a small room and tied to chair.She has in there since she was 20 months old and authorities found her when she was 13 years old. She had been living in that room isolated from the world for over a decade.She was unable to eat,talk walk or even straighten her legs.When doctors gave her an intelligence test, her intelligence score was the of a one year old. Because of her isolation and drama that she experienced before she was discovered, she was unable to learn the skills like taking or walking because she had no social interaction. By the age of 21 she was able to do some of those things but because of that situation she was in she unlikely be able to fully comprehend and develop those skills as much as other people her age.


Most skills that people learn like eating walking talking to not come naturally.You have to learn them.Until maybe a year ago I did not know how to snap my fingers.It was really hard to figure out.I tried mimicking people doing the motion but that did not work.I took a lot of peoples advice but that did not work ether.Until one of my friends gave me the best instructions on how to do it. After that I could snap my fingers with no problem.Even with a skill like snapping you fingers you have to learn it.

week 8

This week in sociology we watched the movie Tuesdays With Morrie and compared to american culture in general.Tuesdays With Morrie is about Mitch and how he Really used all his time for and never shows time for anyone else but when his favorite collage teacher Morrie is diagnosed with ALS he makes time to go see  him  and learns value lessons every time he sees him and helps Mitch beat some of his greatest fears.In the world today just like in Tuesdays With Morrie many people fear death.It is in our culture to not want people to die.We want them to live forever.We also fear for the one dying for what will happen after you die.It is just also hard to execpt that the person is gone but there teachings and memories live on in the world.

I also have fear of death.I was scared too abut what happens after you die.Just this past summer my great uncle died of cancer and knowing he was gone scared me.I really did not understand what will happen next now that he is gone.But I still have all the memories that we had togther.That is something death can never take away.

week 7

During this week in sociology we learned about cultural values and what they mean to people and how do others interpret them.We looked at a reading where it depicts the main thirteen American values that many people live buy.Like the first value that is listed is personal control over the environment. Look at use now because of how we depict this value. Long a go we use to gather and hunt what the earth gave us for food. They did not have the ability to choose whatever they wanted to eat.The took what we could get.But now look at us.We have the power to choose to eat what we want now because we have control over are environment. We make are own food now. We raise it are selves  and able to choose the best quality instead of just getting what is there.

I also can relate to these values that are depicted in this reading.Like number three which is time.I am very onetime type of person. I like to prepare so I can to be on time for things like projects and getting to school on time.It is just something that is always in my plan for most of the things I do.I just feel like being on my time and using my time well is an important value for me. 

week 6

This week in sociology we continued are studying of culture.During class this week we watched the movie "God Grew Tired of Us".This movie is about the refugees from the war in Sudan during the 1990's. How some of them got chosen to come to America to start a new life.It was really a huge culture shock to them tho experience the way people live in America. Like how they use to go to the river to get water and wash themselves.But When they came to the states They had to learn to use the shower to wash themselves, and to get water from a sink.They also got to experience different ways of celebrating things that people have in america that they don't.Like when it was Christmas, they did not have santa or Christmas trees.They did not the  concept or what they mean.It was hard to understand.

I had to adapt to new thing in my life but not as extreme situations like the refugees. When I started middle school i had to adapt to having 6 teachers instead of 1,and having to move from class to class.It was a difficult process to undergo because of the lithe expense of doing this i had.

week 5

This week in sociology we are learning about culture. How we are  curious about different cultures and the way we interrupt those differences.Like in class this week are teacher talked about we would interpret one of these differences compared to our culture.He talked about thee Japanese toilet and how much of a culture shock compared to the toilets we have.How thee bowl is pretty much in the ground and you would have tho kick the handle to flush or they would have a foot peddle to flush. Compaired to the toilets we have where we sit on to use it.The japanese toilet you have to go in a catcher style squat to use the toilet.It is just so different that it is hard to understand and same for some people who have different style and way of using the toilet then we do.Different cultures have different style and different ways tho use objects that we use in daily life.


when I went to the Bahamas I experienced a culture shock.When I was little we went to the Bahamas on a cruise and when we got in a taxi to go site seeing I noticed something strange to me.That the driver was driving on the left hand side of the road.Which was strange to me because in the U.S we drive on the right hand side of the road.As I got older I fond out that other places to do the same thing.I learned that different cultures preform the same tasks we do but in different ways and the away we do things are sometimes different to them as well.

week 4

This week in sociology we watched the movie Bronx Tale and learned about different stereotypes that are in the movie.We learned that stereotypes are generalizations based on flaws and traits a single person or group.In the Bronx Tale movie you get stereotypes  that people depict that are not true.Like in the movie the main character C thinks that this African American girl he likes has an exotic name which is Calogero. But that was not true. Compaired to her name which was Jane he had the more exotic name then she did. Another stereotype that is depicted in the movie is that all Italians are gangsters.But that is not true as well in the movie.Look at C's dad.He is Italian and he stays away from the gangsters live a working mans life even though he keeps getting offers from the gangsters but does not excepting them because he does not want any thing to do with them.

Sometimes stereotypes appear in my own life. Like people from other states think that all people From Chicago have an accent . Some people from out of state tell me that I have a Chicago accent and I think of that as stereotyping because they are dictating where I am because of my accent.Which is also not true.Many people from Chicago don't have accents. But people don't really notice because it is easer to recognize  the stereotype and know where you are from.

Week 3

This week in sociology we learned about social structure and how there dare different groups that we can be part of by the way we act,are family,friends and many others.We did an activity where we drew a digram with are names in the middle and wrote different groups we belong in like family that we are a part of. After doing that I was amazed with how many different groups that people can be apart of.From there family to there gym class there where so many groups and the amount of groups that could be broken of from the genrarl grouse like from family to mediate family.Then we had to pick the specific role from that group that best fits you.I chose son because sometimes when people think of me they think of me as my fathers son.That is because of the physical and sociological similarities that we have together and how big of a role it is to me to live up to those expectations.What I did find similar to my life in this activity is different groups I am apart of and how they oscillate with my life.For example I have a role to play as being a good friend by landing theme some money but i am also a son and i could be saving that money to do something or give something for my family.These groups could sometimes contradict each other in my life.

Week 2

this week in sociology  we talked about the three socilogical imagination perspectives,functional analysis, conflict theory, and symbolic interaction . Functional analysis is studying of how people funtion in society.Conflict theory is studying of convicts and the power struggles within them of who has the power in the conflict . Symbolic interaction is how people interpret different symbols and there different meanings in society. In class we interped these three prespectives by looking at the T.V show Freaks and Geeks.This show is about a high school in the 80's and the struggles of high school in there teenage lives.While we were watching the show we had to analysis the function of sere ton groups and how they function in the high school For example look at the geeks, they are the smart but not overly popular part of the school but they serve a function of being smart and some times being at the bottom of the food change of popularity. We also had to look out and study the main convicts of the show like how the main charters little brother got bulled and when his friends actually fought the bully the power was in main control of the bully because he was stronger and had the most control over the situation.We also had to look for symbols as well like Jason Sigel character drum set which symbolized to him something he enjoys doing and makes every day worth it and he tells the main character to find that sort of thing and have fun with it.These three perspectives relate to my life as well.some times I think about how some little dales are impotent to functioning in society like what clothes will help you fit in or what chothes to were at sermon parts of the year like sometimes i will wear a football shirt in the middle of base ball season but it would matter to people.Also some times i have convicts in my life that I have not total control in like what time to go to bed because i have to get up early and go to school it is end of decision and my mom sets those rules and i follow them. I can also connect to what the drum set symbolized to Jasons charcater is very similar to what sybolise some things in my life too like watching football with my dad. I love doing it and i also because of that branch out and have become such a huge fan of football because of what it means to me.

Blog Week One

In Sociology this week Mr.S taught us about sociological imagination and sociological mindfulness ,which mean how we as people interpret the world and how it effects and changes us.For example during class he showed us a person preforming a poem about how technology and how much we use it and how the use effects use in real life.How people use face time to talk to people instead of really tailing in person to that individual or how people center things around technology like seeing pictures from a event instead of going to it.I grew up in a age when you beryl had texting or cell phones or computers.I would just talk to a friend face to face or going to see a show instead of watching it online or seeing the online reviews.Now look at me.I am upses with my phone.Sometimes sired of going outside or see the world i would just go one my phone and computer and play games or lesioning to music or just watch Tv show episodes I missed. So as the ages go by prospective and interpretations of thing in society can change.

Who Am I

I am a kind person who want lives fullest.I am some one who can be competitive at sometimes but i is just part of playing a game and enjoying life.I love my family and they love and respect me always.when i ever need help or just need someone to talk to they are always there for me.Every time they help me it inspires me to try harder to reach my goals in life.I want tho treat people how they would want to be treated and to always treat people as equals and to respect everything and everyone around me.From the tiny mouse to the tallest of trees they all deserve respect.I do enjoy compeitive nature because it makes the game more exciting but we all are winners as long as we try are best.My Goal is to just do my best in life and enjoy every step of the way.
